Job Description
The Project Planner / Scheduler is responsible for developing, integrating, and maintaining detailed project schedules that ensure alignment across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning functions. This role supports the standardization of planning and scheduling processes, provides analytical insights to project teams, and ensures consistent reporting of schedule performance and forecasting across all assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Support planning and scheduling activities across multiple projects and operating assets, balancing competing priorities while maintaining reporting consistency.
- Support and ensure standardization of planning and scheduling deliverables and processes across multiple assets to achieve efficiency and consistency within the group.
- Develop and maintain Level I–IV integrated project schedules in collaboration with Project Management and Discipline Leads.
- Integrate schedules from Engineering/Procurement (EP) firms, module yards, construction management teams (CMT), and commissioning (CSU) to align with project execution strategies.
- Support quantity and manpower resource loading and forecasting for assigned schedules.
- Review and validate schedule data to ensure logical sequencing, identifying gaps and dependencies that can potentially impact execution.
- Manage schedule changes through the established change management system in accordance with Project Controls procedures.
- Develop and maintain schedule basis documents for all assigned integrated schedules.
- Perform critical path and variance analysis, identifying and communicating activities with potential schedule risks.
- Conduct “what-if” scenarios to evaluate recovery and contingency plans.
- Implement progress measurement tools and methodologies to monitor schedule performance.
- Consolidate progress and performance data from EP contractors, module yards, and CMT for project-wide reporting.
- Support CMT in monitoring contractor performance versus plan, identify deviations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor integrated schedule interfaces, highlight potential issues, and propose mitigation strategies.
- Prepare and distribute schedule progress and performance reports (e.g., float analysis, variance, and KPI reports) and contribute to other project controls deliverables.
- Participate in developing and improving planning/scheduling procedures, templates, and reporting standards within Primavera P6 and other tools.
- Ensure resource-loaded schedules are aligned with site contractor progress reports (CPRs).
- Develop front-end planning schedules using limited early-phase data such as plot plans, Class V estimates, and historical metrics.
Key Deliverables
- Fully integrated Level I–IV project schedules with logical sequencing across all execution phases.
- Schedule Basis Memorandums outlining assumptions, constraints, and methodologies.
- Bi-Weekly schedule updates, including variance analysis, progress curves, and resource histograms.
- Critical Path and “what-if” analysis reports identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies.
- Standardized progress and performance measurement tools and templates.
- Consolidated project schedule reports for stakeholders (EP, Mod Yard, CMT, PMT).
- Contributions to continuous improvement of corporate planning and scheduling procedures.

- Advanced understanding of EPC project lifecycles and work packaging concepts (WBS/CBS).
- Strong analytical skills in schedule health checks, critical path management, and resource forecasting.
- Knowledge of construction sequencing, progress measurement, and field execution practices.
- Proficient in schedule risk analysis tools (e.g., Primavera Risk Analysis, Safran, or equivalent).
- Skilled in developing and maintaining progress dashboards, histograms, and performance indicators.
- Experience in integrating schedules across multiple contractors and execution scopes.

Qualifications
- On-site/field experience within large-scale industrial projects (oil & gas, petrochemical, or energy sector) preferred.
- Advanced Primavera P6 proficiency
- Strong understanding of project controls processes, cost integration, and change management.
- Knowledge of schedule risk analysis and forecasting methodologies.
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Work Arrangements
- Work Location: Calgary, Alberta
- Hours : Monday-Friday, 40hrs/week
- Travel: Occasional travel to project sites may be required.
- Duration: Initial 12-month contract with potential extension.
